Database Server Hosting
What is a Database Server?
According to Wikipedia, “A database server is a server which houses a database application that provides database services to other computer programs or computers, as defined by the client-server model.”
Whether you run an ecommerce store or a WordPress blog, the information on most websites today is stored in databases.
With extremely large websites getting lots of traffic, the number of requests and load on the database server can necessitate the need to have your own database server.
For most other websites, the database management services bundled into our hosting plans may be optimal. All web hosting plans offered by Ballistic Domains come equipped with databases that can be easily set up and configured without the need of a web admin or technical knowledge. Our Windows based web hosting plans come with MSSQL databases and all other plans use MYSQL as the database management system.
At Ballistic Domains, we offer a range of web hosting solutions including dedicated web servers and managed database servers. We will be happy to answer any questions you may have and help launch your database to the next level. Contact us today to find out how we can help launch your business out of this world!
Creating a Database Server
When you create the database for your website, the database administrator creates a database with the database management system. Tables are then created within the new database to store and organize data. Users are created for the new database by the database administrator (db admin) and given certain privileges to access or update information within the tables. All of this can easily be managed via the supplied control panel on each of our hosting plans.
Your database could be a geodatabase, an Oracle database, source database, relational database, or an open-source database based upon your needs. Your database server features include:
Add Users
As a database administrator, you will need to set-up and assign database logins. These will be used for your users to access data or information stored within your database.
Add Data
Any of your assigned users will also have the capability to upload information into the database. The amount of access each user has is also decided by the administrator; you can set restrictions to various users based upon the amount of access you wish them to have. For example, you may have restricted data uploaded that only you as the administrator has access to.
Database Connection
The assigned logins will be used for the database connection. Again, based upon the permissions given to each user will allow what they can see within the database and the amount of information they can upload or change.
