Domain Extensions introduced since 2003.

Many different domain extensions or TLDs have been introduced since the original set of seven domain names of the 1980s and those introduced in 2001-2003.

.mobi domain names

With mobile computing rapidly coming into its own, the .mobi extension was created. An abbreviation of “mobile”, the .mobi extension is meant for websites meant for viewing on mobile phones. It can be used by websites that offer anything and everything related to mobiles including content, products, and services, and downloads.

.tv domain names

The name would suggest that this is a domain extension for the television industry. Although this is most commonly used by websites related to the television industry, the .tv domain extension is actually a country-specific domain extension of Tuvalu. And that brings us to the…

Country-specific domain extensions

Also called the country-code top level domains or ccTLDs, the country-specific domain extensions are generally used by websites that are representative of a country or limited to a country in terms of geographical reach. While there are no universal restrictions on the country-specific domain extensions, there may be restrictions or qualifying guidelines set by some countries. Use of some of the country-specific domain extensions may require a local presence, citizenship or some other form of local connection.
